A Guide to St Kitts - Fall in Love With the Caribbean

When I think of the Caribbean, usually the likes of Jamaica, Antigua and Barbados come to mind. But there are SO many other islands to discover, many of which I hadn't even heard of until last year. In December I was lucky enough to go to St. Kitts with my work, so decided to put together a guide to this little gem of a destination!

St Kitts is twinned with the island of Nevis and jointly they are known as the nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. While most Caribbean islands portray white, sandy beaches, St. Kitts is totally unique as it is known for rainforests, lush green mountains and beaches of white, grey and even black sands.

Of course one of the main reasons for visiting the Caribbean is the amazing weather (I went in December and wrote a post on why I now want to go away every Winter!)

For those who don't know about St. Kitts, here is your whistle stop guide...

My 2018 Reading List

I'm a little delayed posting this but one of my New Year's Resolutions every year is to try and read more books.

I am currently reading Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. a captivating book that follows three women who are all at a crossroads. Think school-mum scandals; ex-husbands, second wives, mother and children troubles. It has since been turned into an award winning series starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon so I'm excited to give it a read!

Another fictional book on my list includes How to Stop Time, by Matt Haig. It seems a little Benjamin Button-esque - about a man called Tom Hazard who looks 41-years-old but has in fact been alive for centuries. He has to continuously change his identity to stay alive and cannot fall in love.

One book that I read at the start of the year is The Wrong Knickers by Bryony Gordon. For any 20-something female living in London who is struggling with the pressures of adulting you will 100% relate to this book! I read every page nodding my head and laughing at Bryony's escapades.

I'm all about motivational and inspirational books this year and just did a mammoth Amazon order to fill my shelves with books to help me smash this year! I have already purchased #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso after seeing it all over the blogosphere!

I have also got How to be an Overnight Success by by Maria Hatzistefanis, the head of Rodial. I'm a huge fan of Rodial skincare and makeup, when the brand launched its cult 'snake' serum, the press quickly called the business an 'overnight success'. But Maria has been building the brand for 18 years from scratch in her bedroom.

What's on your reading list this year?

Affordable relaxation with Spa Experience

Spa treatments and pamper days are the perfect way to forget the daily grind and treat yourself to some much-needed relaxation.

There is often an idea that spa days come with a hefty price tag or involve trekking halfway across the country to get there, but there are a number of spas right on the capital’s doorstep to suit every taste and budget.

Spa Experience is a concept by Better leisure centres, making spa days accessible and affordable for everyone. They provide affordable luxury in a welcoming and friendly environment, with locations across the UK in London, Belfast, Hertfordshire, Somerset and Surrey.

They offer typical spa treatments like facials, massage, hammam scrubs, waxing, manicures and pedicures.

The £3.30 mascara that’s changed my life

When a beauty brand brings out a new mascara, it needs to do some pretty wondrous things to get my seal approval. Nothing disappoints me more than forking out around £18-£20 on a new mascara just to be left with clumpy lashes.

I’ve tried pretty much every new mascara launch but really don’t see the point in forking out big bucks for them. Especially since seeing the launch of Benefit’s new BadGal Bang – which in my opinion is completely over-hyped! Mascaras really shouldn’t cost a fortune.

If like me you’ve gone from brand to brand trying to find a decent one you can stick with, you will understand the struggles of trying to track down a must have. Is it so difficult to find one that delivers volume, length and colour without smudging?!

Which is why when a couple of friends started raving about a mascara from Wilko that only cost around £3 I HAD to find out more.

Swiss Clinic Brow Enhancer Serum

At the age of about 17 I went through a terrible phase of plucking my eyebrows to death, mainly because I weirdly enjoyed pulling the hairs out and shaping my brows into ultra thin lines. Fast forward about five years later and suddenly Cara Delevingne is rocking ultra-full brows and, like many, I was wondering what the hell I had done.

I'd debated getting an eyebrow serum for a while but of course the main concern was would they actually work.I came across Swiss Clinic after seeing Lydia Millen's blog posts around the Swiss Clinic derma roller and deciding to try it for myself. So when I knew they did an eyebrow serum too I knew they would have to be the brand I go to.

Let's talk about...

Hair removal isn't something often talked about in the blogger world - despite the fact it's a lot of us seem to do (or choose not to - feminism and all that) on a regular basis. I can remember from a young age feling embarassed about my hairy arms and legs and wanting to do something about it as soon as possible. But like most teens I was told the same thing by my mum - once you start it will grow back even thicker and you won't be able to stop!

Treat Yourself on Galentine's Day!

Oh... is it Valentine's Day tomorrow? Whether you're going on an extravagant, romantic night out or planning to sink a bottle of wine and a pizza on your own in your PJs (hiya!) make sure you are taking some quality time to yourself. While I'm of the #TreatYourself mentality more regularly than my bank balance allows, this week is especially a good time to do a bit of pampering and reminding yourself you are faaabulous...

January Favourites

Usually I start these posts by saying I can't believe another month has gone by but January really felt like the longest month ever! Frankly I spent most of the month with dry and pasty skin so the majority of the products I've been using have been to hydrate and add a pop of colour! Here are my favourite products from January...

An Oldie but a Goodie - Pixi Glow Tonic

Pixi Beauty's Glow Tonic has become a hero skincare product and is used and loved by pretty much everyone. Up until last year I had never used Glow Tonic before but had seen it in virtually every beauty magazine, website and Instagram feed, so knew I had to try it for myself!

Glow Tonic helps tone, firm and tighten the skin. It removes dead skin cells for healthier looking skin. As an alternative to your usual face scrub, it contains Glycolic Acid which acts as an exfoliator and purifies skin. It also contains Ginseng, which improves circulation and energises, and Aloe Vera, to soothe and hydrate. In one quick, gentle sweep it refines pores and accelerates cell renewal to reveal brighter skin.

Pixi very kindly recently sent me this huge personalised bottle of Glow Tonic so I'm fully stocked for the year!

Mobile Beauty with Uspaah

While I love nothing more than a professional salon treatment, there’s nothing worse than having to rush or travel halfway across London to make it to your appointment only to be a flustered mess when you’re done – especially if you’re caught in the rain on the way back!

Uspaah takes the hassle out of beauty treatments as its team of therapists come to you. They deliver a range of treatments from massages to nails, hair styling, makeup, facials and even spray tans. You don’t need any equipment as they bring everything along with them.

I recently had a day off work so decided to have a life admin day catching up on some emails and blog posts. While I desperately needed to get my nails done, and wanted to treat myself, I didn’t want to take a big chunk out of my day travelling to the salon or get distracted afterwards.

I had heard a lot about mobile beauty treatments so decided to give it a go myself and booked in for a Shellac manicure using Uspaah.

Rush Hair Lewisham

Rush Hair Lewisham

Rush Hair Lewisham

When it comes to getting my hair cut I have never found one hairdresser I can stick with and instead tend to opt for reputable salon brands that I know I can trust. I've had great experiences with Rush Hair Salons before and the team always work wonders on my hair (they opened a new salon in Holborn last year and I went for the most beautiful blowdry at their flagship salon in Piccadilly) so when I had a day off this week I paid a visit to their Lewisham branch for a much-needed trip.

My stylist, Vicky, was great and spent time chatting through what I was looking for and how I like my hair styled before we got started and explained exactly how much would be cut off the length of my hair.

The salon itself is really bright and airy and simple touches like the pretty plants and comfy cushions make you feel so relaxed as soon as you walk in. Rush also add lovely extra touches like bringing you a drink on a tray with complementary Lindt chocolates and some pretzel bites!

After a lovely hairwash including a relaxing head massage Vicky used a heat protecting lotion from Kerastasse, which smelt amazing!

Rush Hair Lewisham

I have neglected my hair quite a lot recently and not had it cut since the summer (never a good idea! Regular trims are a must!) so a fair bit needed to come off the lengths and it immediately felt so much healthier, lighter and bouncier after being trimmed and tidied up. Finally it was styled beautifully with curling tongs and I left feeling fabulous with soft, bouncy waves!

Rush can do everything from haircuts to styling (hair up, GHD styling or blowdrys), colouring and mask treatments. A regular cut & blowdry with a stylist starts from £44 for women and £32 for men, however, if you recommend a friend they will get 50% off their first treatment and you will also receive a 50% off voucher.

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara

I was so excited when I found out about the launch of Urban Decay's Troublemaker mascara last year. The bright packaging immediately caught my eye and the mascara made some bold claims - promising lashes with 13.7 times the volume that can withstand pretty much anything (even sex!)

Troublemaker comes with a £19.50 price tag and is said to volumise and lengthen lashes as it separates, while the custom brush grabs onto lashes and curls as it coats - resulting in thicker, longer and fanned out looking lashes.

Pixi Beauty Rose Essence Collection

Quite possibly the prettiest parcel to drop through my letterbox was this beautiful collection from Pixi Beauty shortly before Christmas. Pixi have got it spot on with their products and as someone who is still fairly new to the brand I am loving discovering and trying out all their different skincare and makeup.

I was very kindly sent this beautiful box which is locked with a rose gold padlock. It is designed like a secret story book and once opened it says 'Open to reveal the key to glowing skin' followed by a skincare fairytale.

The left hand side reveals two of Pixi's Skin Treats - Rose Caviar Essence and Rose Flash Balm. As you can see there is a pretty, pink rose theme throughout this collection. Rose Hip and Rose Flower Oils are popular skincare ingredients to soften, moisturise and protect skin.

Rose Caviar Essence reminds me of a gel/water-based moisturiser and is designed to brighten, nourish and hydrate. Simply pop a coin-sized amount on to the skin after cleansing and toning and it melts into the skin. It is a lovely floral scent and feels really comforting. It also contains natural oils that soften and tone the skin. (£26).

The Rose Flash Balm is very similar to Clarins' and Elemis' versions of flash balm and is a three in one multi-use product that is both a primer, moisturiser and a hydrating mask. I love these types of products and they are real hero products for my delicate skin. I've been keeping it by the side of my bed so I can pop it on at night, and if my skin is particularly dry in the mornings I'll use it under foundation. I have found this really works and helps to brighten my skin.

On the other side of the collection are the Pixi Matte Last Liquid Lipsticks. I hadn't actually seen these before so was really excited to give them a go. There are five in total and the colour options are just beautiful. They range from neutral to very soft pinky / purpley shades and come with a Petal-shaped applicator to help apply the lipsticks evenly. Despite the colours being neutral shades they are very highly pigmented and I find just one sweep of the applicator instantly makes a bold, lasting impression. The colours also set very quickly and dry almost instantly without budging throughout the day!

The five shades are: Au Naturelle, Matte Beige, Pastel Petal, Really Rose and Evening Rose. Each lipstick costs £16.
