Pixi Skin Mists

You know when a skincare product launches and you just get really overexcited? That was exactly what happened when I saw Pixi had extended its range of skincare mists. I'm a huge fan of skin mists and often use them to top up my skin's hydration when I'm on holiday or to try and liven up my face while strolling through an airport (with a quick stop off at the La Mer counter!).

So here's a little guide to what does what...

Vitamin Wakeup Mist (£16) Best applied to a clean face first thing in the morning, this is a boosting toner to give a revitalized, awakened effect. It is filled with citrus ingredients to perk up the skin before moisturisers. Out of all four of the mists I wasn't so keen on the smell of this one but it definitely helped to perk up my skin!

Glow Mist (£16) This is one of the Pixi 'classics' as it was launched a few years back. It gives a radiant, dewy effect and is enriched with 13 different oils to hydrate and nourish skin. Shake well to mix in the oils then the mist can either be applied morning or night; on bare skin or over makeup. I use this on makeup free days or apply a couple of spritzes over makeup to give me a dewy glow.

Makeup Fixing Mist (£16) I was really excited to give this a try as I don't often use a makeup setting spray. I've heard good things about the Urban Decay spray but haven't really seen other products leading the way. I often worry that makeup fixers can be a bit too chemically and cause me to break out in spots but this spray contains all natural ingredients - like rose water and green tea - that protect and balance the skin while holding on to makeup.

Hydrating Milky Mist (£18) In terms of hydrating sprays I always reach for my La Roche Posay water, but recently my skin has been in absolute havoc and has been extremely dry. As well as using a serum and moisturiser day and night I now like to use an additional hydrating spray to lock in moisture. This mist is ultra light and contains hyaluronic acid to give an instant layer of hydration and help plump up the skin.

Kimchee King's Cross

At the end of March I got invited to the opening of Kimchee's latest restaurant in King's Cross. Kimchee is a Korean restaurant that has just opened in Pancras Square - the second Kimchee restaurant to open in London following the success of its original branch in Holborn.

Kimchee serves a range of meat, fish and vegetable Korean dishes all cooked in an open plan kitchen. The dining area reminded me of a slightly fancier Wagamamas as it is all shared tables, however, there are private dining tables downstairs and even a table top barbeque. The restaurant itself is huge and extremely airy with high ceilings - however, they have put a lot of tables into the space available so if it's busy it can feel a little cramped.

Now on to the food....

Inspired by marine ingredients and the restorative power of the sea, the La Source collection for hair, skin and body contains four different Marine Blends, each with Green Seaweed Extract, to boost skin benefits.

Pixi Hello Rose Highlighting Kit

I'm a little late jumping on the Pixi bandwagon; after seeing and hearing such good things about their skincare (hello Double Cleanse Balm and Glow Tonic all over my Instagram) I was excited to give their makeup range a try...

The Hello Rose highlighting kit (£20) contains a trio of some of Pixi's essentials for lips, cheeks and complxion; the LipLift Max Gloss in 'Sheer Rose', Beauty Blush Duo and Glow Booster skin veil in the pearlescent shade 'Pink Pearl'.

This kit is an ideal starter to Pixi's hero products and creates a soft glow for skin that is a little dull or lacklusture. Use the Glow Booster as a base for makeup or wear alone, then add the blush duo to sculpt and define cheekbones and add a warm flush of rose to the cheeks. Finally the LipLift has a lip-plumping effect to make lips look fuller without any stickiness.

Glow Booster: This sheer pearly pink liquid can either be worn alone, mixed with foundation or above foundation as a highlighter. This is by far one of my products in the kit and I've been mixing a few drops with moisturiser and foundation to add a dewy glow to my skin.

Beauty Blush Duo: In the shade 'Rose Gold', one side is a soft pink blush and the other is a golden highlighter. I've also been using the neutral shade as an eyeshadow. This powder is very soft and sheer so is perfect for a natural makeup look.

LipLift Lipstick: This lip plumper nourishing as it enhances so it feels more like a liquid lipstick. The Shade 'Sheer Rose; is the darkest of the three shades available but is still sheer enough to be worn during the day for a soft & natural look.

Thank you Pixi for letting me try out this kit! What are your favourite Pixi products?

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Collection

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Collection

When it comes to body ranges I love everything deliciously scented, but sometimes it's nice to just go back to basics and give your body some TLC. If you suffer from dry or sensitive skin it's best to use ultra-nourishing ranges that aren't overly scented or full of nasties.

The Body Shop recently launched the Almond Milk & Honey collection, which has no colourants, is hypoallergenic and is dermatologically tested for sensitive skin. While most of the classic products for sensitive skin on the market can be a little dull to use, this range combines nourishing textures and a subtle fragrance. It contains almond oil and honey - so it is as kind to the environment as it is to your skin.

One in three of us have sensitive skin, so it's important to look after our bodies!

The range consists of:

  • Soothing & Restoring Body Lotion
  • Exfoliating Cream body scrub
  • Soothing cleansing bar
  • Calming & Protecting hand cream
  • Soothing & Restoring body butter
  • Soothing & Caring bath milk
  • Soothing & caring bath cream

Birchbox March 2017

I've never been a regular subscriber to beauty boxes but I always keep an eye on the likes of Glossybox, Birchbox and Latest in Beauty if something in particular catches my eye or if they do any one-off special editions (I'm looking at you, dreamy La Mer Glossybox). I pre-registered for the March Birchbox last month after they did a sneak preview and announced they'd be including one of the new Benefit They're Real Double The Lip lipsticks in each box. There were two shades to choose from and I could select the shade in advance. So how did the rest of the box fare up?...

There were five products on this month's box - most looked like new launches, some I'd seen before and all were minis. Here is the run down of each:

#HomewareGoals

Homeware

Has anyone else been collating Homeware Inspiration on Pinterest for years, ready for when they win the lottery and finally purchase their idyllic home in Notting Hill? While in reality I'm living in a shoebox in South West London, where I can't even hang things on my walls because there's just plaster board separating me and my housemates!

In a dream world, blogger-worthy houses would have white walls for outfit photos, marble counters for flatlays and bright, natural lighting for 24 hour blogger pics.

Some of my current affordable homeware stores include Sass & Belle, Urban Outfitters, Notonthehighstreet.com and H&M's homeware range.

My current wishlist includes:

  • H&M Bedlinen - Super quirky designs and pastel colours that compliment all colour schemes
  • Panasonic Speaker System - One of the slimline designs will be ideal for playing my Spotify playlists rather than relying on my phone's speakers
  • Sass & Belle wall hangings - My plan is to have a feature wall filled with different frames

Oh My Blog! Interview with The Mum From Brum

Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day soon!) and we’re hosting Becki from The Mum From Brum.

1.      Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
My Mum is Dee (Although as a Brummie I do call her Mom!!) She works in an office but if I’m honest I’m not entirely sure what the firm does! I know she processes orders and arranges dispatches… or something! Ha! Logistics?! Not a clue…

2.      What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
I’m not sure there’s one particular thing. Although she always ends a phone conversation the same way - there’s lots of byes!

3.      Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
Julie Walters. Well, really I think it'd be a cross between her and Victoria Wood.

4.      She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
A lot of alcohol ha! And maybe a holiday, but not to some desert island, but Cornwall.

5.      What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?
Either that when I was potty training I used to poop behind the sofa, or that I was obsessed with Alastair Stewart the news reader. My aunt arranged for him to send me a birthday card for my 30th last year!

6.      What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
I tend not to plan anything, if I’m honest. I’ve always found things like birthdays and celebration make my anxiety pretty bad so I tend to stay away from planning anything; then if something nice happens I haven’t worried that it’s going to be a disaster! I’m hoping to be able to knit something for my Mom - I keep saying I will but not getting around to it.

7.      What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
She doesn’t watch a lot of TV.  I know she likes those Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away sort of programmes though.

8.      What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
She has an amazing hard work attitude - I always remember her taking on a Christmas job every year so we had a bit of extra cash, even though she was a stay at home mum to me and my siblings the rest of the year.

9.      Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
Gold Label. It’s Barley Wine. And it’s POTENT

10.  What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?
Mom and I are very different people! We’ve not always understood each other, or even always got on. Since I had my son we’ve been a lot closer, and she’s been amazingly supportive.

11.  Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
Honestly, I have no idea! I can’t imagine she’s read it, and I really doubt she’s watched it. But I could be wrong!

12.  What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
It’s a strange one! When the first Bridget Jones film came out, there was a text service where you would get quotes from the film sent to your phone - and I read one out to her that had the F word in it. Her face was a picture!!! I was 15 and I think it was the first time she’s heard me swear.

13.  What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
Well, judging by the fact that she met my dad in a pub when she was 15, a bit of a handful - but not in a bad way!

14.  Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
My mom hated it when I didn’t tell her things - and as I’m a bit of an introvert I’m not one to share my feelings out loud. While I wasn’t the most troublesome of teenagers we did have a few barneys over me wanting to have some quiet angsty time and her wanting me to tell her why I was cross. Just hormones! A few years later I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I think she struggled to understand that it wasn’t just a case of me needing to “cheer up” and that it was a genuine health condition.

15.  Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
She’s not really one for the cliches and mottos - a general sense of “sod the people judging you, do what’s best for you” comes across quite strongly though!

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

I have to admit I went off Benefit makeup for a while as none of their new launches particularly grabbed me, but now it seems like their smashing out new product after new product and suddenly my ears are pricking up again as they all look pretty exciting!

I have a slight love hate relationship with Benefit's new launches. Some of their classic products like the blusher boxes are my all-time favourites but others such as Fine One One were a bit hit and miss with me.

The most recent one to catch my eye is the They're Real Duo Shadow Blender. I don't think there is anything on the market like it at the moment, they are little eyeshadow duos in a case with a sponge applicator to do all the hard work of blending for you. There are eight different sets available with complimentary shades - one lighter and one darker.

For someone like me who doesn't wear eyeshadow, and doesn't have the faintest clue where to start with it, it seems like a pretty nifty invention. You have to swipe the blender across a few times to pick up the product then just apply it to your eyes the same you would with a regular eyeshadow brush or sponge. The fact you have everything you need (including a built in mirror) in an easy, portable case takes all the faff out of applying makeup! They aren't the most pigmented of eyeshadows but for an easy way of creating a soft look I'd recommend giving them a go.

So are they worth the money? You can buy the eyeshadow duos individually for £19.50, which is a fairly standard Benefit price, or a kit with three smaller versions in for £28.50. The kit is a better value way of trying it out if you want to try the different shades. You can buy the blender sponges alone for £7.50, which is a little steep!

Makeup for Dry Skin to Get A Glow

For too many months now it feels like my skin has been dry, dull and in need of some serious sunshine (hurry up summer!) but recently I've found some life saving products to help me get my glow back.

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder #BrowLikeCara

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Gone are the days where you could slick a bit of clear mascara through your brows and hope for the best. They now need to be smoothed, plucked and filled in to perfection. Rimmel's latest collection, using the dedicated hashtag #BrowLikeCara is dedicated to brows and jam packed full of products so there is something for everyone.

One of the new launches is the Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powders. There are four shades available and they retail at £5.99 each. It comes in a pot with a built in wand, similar to an eyeliner, and is filled with a loose powder. Just shake the pot to ensure it covers the soft sponge-like wand and use it to fill, define and line your brows.

The powder is super pigmented and creates a dramatic and defined effect. In all honesty they're a little too pigmented for me (I'm pretty lazy with my brows) but for anyone that likes super strong brows I'd recommend trying them out. The only other issue I found is that some of the powder does drop off the sponge when I apply it, so you need to be careful when you use it or dab some off the excess off before applying.

Although this wasn't ideal for me for my eyebrows (however I've started using Rimmel's brow mascara instead and much prefer it!) I do use the powders as eyeliner and they work just as well.

The shades range from light brown to medium brown, dark brown and soft black. Again, as they are so pigmented I'd recommend going for a lighter shade or one as close to your hair colour as possible.

New in from La Roche Posay

Generally when I’m doing my makeup in the mornings for work I’m dashing around in a hurry having had barely enough sleep. My eyes aren’t fully open and are still adjusting to the light having opened my curtains in a rush.

New L'Oreal Infallible paint chubby blush

The new L'Oreal Infallible Blush Paint Stick is a high pigmented cream blush stick that glides on and provides a cream to powder formulation. It blends effortlessly then sets to a powder to provide a longer wear.

The high pigment means it is good for creating a dramatic colour look or sculpting cheekbones.

It is a similar dupe of the classic Clinique Chubby Sticks and a fraction of the price at £7.99 there are three shades available and I have the lightest - Pinkabilly, a bright baby pink.

La Mer Glossybox

When I saw that Glossybox were doing a collaboration with La Mer I knew I had to get my hands on one. I’ve always walked past the luxury brand in department stores and thought how lavish it looked but knew I never could afford to get anything from there myself!

Valentine's Day Beauty

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a loved one, want to look extra fierce for that Tinder date (or Tinder photo shoot) or just want to treat yourself to a pamper night, these are my favourite products to make you look and feel extra special this February.

Having spent the last three Valentine’s Days in a relationship this is my first Valentine’s Day as a single lady and I can’t tell you how excited I am to watch some Netflix, cook myself the most amazing dinner and have a bubble bath.

Body

For me the key to feeling great after a pamper night is to smell AMAZING. I scrub away all my dry skin in the shower (Soap & Glory is my fave!) and use a moisturising body wash like Soft & Gentle then slather on a rich body butter. I also love to use a rich hand cream on my hands and nails – current favourite is Crabtree & Evelyn.

I also feel a hundred times more human when I take the pasty, on the turn of looking ill, look off my body and put on a layer of fake tan. I’ve tried many fake tans over the years but if you’re looking for one that is quick and easy to apply in a hurry I love Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Mousse.
I’m not usually the biggest fan of perfumes as I often find them a bit too heavy but I’ll wear it on special occasions. Accessorize have just launched LoveLily which is a fun and fruity perfume with notes of raspberry, orange and bergamot.

Hair

Admittedly I take really poor care of my hair and often forget to use heat protection or styling products on it. Generally I’d say I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to my hair but once every few weeks I will use a conditioning hair mask like Phil Smith Moroccan Oil Cream

Makeup

I’ve recently discovered beauty blenders to apply foundation and they are a game changer! I love the Original Beauty Blender but Brushworks’ Sponge Set is a cheap alternative and has a larger sponge for foundation and smaller sponges for concealer.

Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick in Velvet Slipper is my current favourite lip shade. These are by far the best value matte liquid lipsticks. It is a matte finish liquid lipstick that glides on in one smooth application, with no need for a second coat and it lasts all day. There are 15 to die for shades available.

Products:
  • Accessorize LoveLily Perfume £19.00, Accessorize/The Fragrance Shop
  • Cocoa Brown Tan
  • Phil Smith
  • Crabtree & Evelyn
  • Brushworks HD Complete Blender Sponge Set £9.95
  • Soft & Gentle
  • Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick £4.99

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

When I think of The Body Shop I don't immediately think of makeup - more fruity smelling body butters, but they have really been upping their game recently with their new releases. So I was so excited when the latest addition to their makeup range, these Matte Lip Liquids, launched last year. Strangely I never really got on the matte lip hype (still yet to buy any Nyx products..)  so this seemed like the perfect time to try!

Visiting Rush Hair, Holborn

Rush has recently opened a new hair salon in Holborn, London, offering fabulous blowdrys, cuts and colour services.

The salon opened in December and, after previously visiting their flagship salon in Piccadilly last year, I was excited to see what the new branch had to offer.
