Beauty Rocks Tokyo Love Box

I've had a fascination with Japanese beauty products from as long as I can remember, so when the lovely Jamie from Beauty Rocks Blog created her own beauty box based on her travels in Japan, I couldn't wait to take a peek!

Each product has been hand picked by Jamie and her subscription box has an Around The World Theme, focusing on a different different country that is special to her each month. Some of the products in the box I've heard of before but others were completely new to me so I couldn't wait to dive in...

KORRES CASTANEA ARCADIA RANGE

I am a huge fan of Korres; their body ranges are to die for and I am always stocked up on delicious-smelling shower gels and body lotions. I’ve recently started branching into their skincare ranges after being so impressed with the Greek brand and one of their latest launches, the Castanea Arcadia range, certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Exfoliating Pads from Nip + Fab

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Pads

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Pads

While I generally avoid makeup wipes and any other cleansing wipes because they cause havoc with my skin, these cleansing and exfoliating pads from Nip + Fab are by far an exception to the rule. Usually, when I think of exfoliation I think of face scrubs, but I'm now starting to introduce different ways of exfoliating my skin to my routine, including peels, creams, and toners, and these generally have a much better effect on my skin - without being as harsh!

One of the quick and easy ways to exfoliate skin is using these pads from Nip + Fab. They have an entire range for different skin types and are one of the most purse-friendly I have come across.

The Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads come in a pack of 60, which are soaked in exfoliating glycolic acid (2.8%) to retexture the skin. They also contain witch hazel, which tones the skin and also works wonders on spots and blemishes. For a stronger exfoliant, the night time pads are more potent and have a higher consistency of glycolic acid (5%), making them the ultimate night time treatment to refine pores, brighten and decongest skin while you sleep.

Because the night time pads are so strong you should only use one around two or three times a week. I personally prefer the night time pads because they get to work a lot quicker and are hugely beneficial, particularly with clearing up spots.

You can check out the full Nip + Fab range at www.nipandfab.com.

Top Brightening Skincare Products

Top Brightening Skincare Products

Top Brightening Skincare Products

Weeks of getting a lack of sleep, wearing makeup and letting product build up on my face means my skin is often looking pretty dull and tired. Recently I've tried to get in the habit of looking after it properly and doing weekly masks and scrubs to get it tip top condition. I've been using products filled with Vitamin C to give my skin a little boost and here are some of my top picks that I've been loving recently:

Pixi Wakeup Skin Mist I did a post all about Pixi's range of skin mists, which you can read here, and I love the Wakeup Mist because it wakes my skin up first thing in the morning. I've been using it as a toner and spritz it all over my face to revitalize and awaken my skin. Available here

Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Reviver When I bought this last year I had no idea just how much I would love it. In my opinion this product is seriously underrated because it's become one of my daily skincare heroes. This radiance booster can be applied either alone or after moisturiser as a primer. It completely smooths out skin, brightens, and gives a silky finish ready to apply makeup!

Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Microdermabrasion This exfoliating scrub is very fine so I use it more as a treatment every one to two weeks rather than a regular face scrub. It helps to get rid of dead skin cells and sweep away any impurities to leave skin glowing.

Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster This new range from Clinique contains pure, high concentration Vitamin C to give skin a boost. These little skincare boosters act as a skincare supplement. Just add two drops to your regular moisturiser and apply morning and evening to top up radiance & brightening levels and up your anti ageing routine!

Murad Intensive C Radiance Peel A while back I went for a facial at the Spa Experience spa within Better leisure centre near Kensington. I was introduced to Murad products and one of their bestsellers, the Intensive C Radiance Peel. Unlike other exfoliators it isn't a scrub, you just leave it on the skin and you will start to feel it tingling and getting to work to reveal brighter skin. My skin can often be quite delicate so I love that isn't as harsh as other treatments. This is particularly great for people that live in cities as it helps to reduce environmental ageing and damage. Available here.

Skinny Tan Express Mousse

When it comes to fake tan, I like a product that can do the job fast. No one has time for lengthy application processes or hanging around for the tan to dry, and no one especially wants stained bed sheets if they're tanning overnight.

Skinny Tan is a tanning brand that is said to combine tanner with skin smoothing actives to tan, contour and reduce the visible appearance of cellulite. For me, that isn't the main selling point of fake tan as I find that having a tan helps to body to appear a little slimmer anyway - but for some it may be a plus. Although I'd seen the brand a lot online and heard about it, I had never actually tried it. A while back I was invited to the launch of Skinny Tan's Express Mousse. Sadly I couldn't make it along but their PR kindly still sent me a bottle to try.

About the product: Skinny Tan Express Mousse is an instant bronzer that develops in one hour. Either wash it off within an hour or leave it longer to develop a darker colour.

My thoughts: This tan was incredibly easily to apply and felt very silky. Despite being a mousse it spread out evenly and didn't dry my skin out at all.

Did it work?: My main issue with fake tan is that the initial colour before washing it off can be extremely dark or a little orange, but I was so impressed with this colour as it looked very natural. Within an hour I had a light brown tan. A lot of product did wash off in the shower but I was left with a natural glow. I tried it again on another occasion and left it develop overnight and the tan was lovely and golden.

Trying Out Phil Smith Hair

I very rarely stick with one haircare brand. I find that my hair gets too used to products after a while and some shampoos and conditioners aren't as effective as they first were. As soon as I run out of shampoo and conditioner I usually switch it up and buy another brand rather than repurchasing.

Recently I was contacted by Phil Smith to see if I'd like to try any of their products.

Fun fitness events to try this summer

Something about the sunshine always makes me more motivated to exercise and I'm already getting guilty of panic using the gym in the knowledge my summer holiday is just around the corner. Luckily the good weather also wants me to take my workouts outside - and there are lots of fun events on in London throughout the UK if you want to try some fun exercise this summer...

Beauty Blender All About Face Collection

Beauty Blender All About Face Collection

When beautyblenders first came on the market I found myself wondering how they were different to a normal foundation sponge and what made them so special to justify them costing so much more (£16 for the original). A few months later I saw an offer on Groupon for a discount on the original beautyblender and decided to give it a go - let's just say any doubts I had were gone and I was 100% converted!

Pixi Skin Mists

You know when a skincare product launches and you just get really overexcited? That was exactly what happened when I saw Pixi had extended its range of skincare mists. I'm a huge fan of skin mists and often use them to top up my skin's hydration when I'm on holiday or to try and liven up my face while strolling through an airport (with a quick stop off at the La Mer counter!).

Kimchee King's Cross

At the end of March I got invited to the opening of Kimchee's latest restaurant in King's Cross. Kimchee is a Korean restaurant that has just opened in Pancras Square - the second Kimchee restaurant to open in London following the success of its original branch in Holborn.

Kimchee serves a range of meat, fish and vegetable Korean dishes all cooked in an open plan kitchen. The dining area reminded me of a slightly fancier Wagamamas as it is all shared tables, however, there are private dining tables downstairs and even a table top barbeque. The restaurant itself is huge and extremely airy with high ceilings - however, they have put a lot of tables into the space available so if it's busy it can feel a little cramped.

Now on to the food....

Feeling blue? We all need a moment or two to relax and this new collection from Crabtree & Evelyn will take you to sunny seaside holidays. Inspired by marine ingredients and the restorative power of the sea, the La Source collection for hair, skin and body contains four different Marine Blends, each with Green Seaweed Extract, to boost skin benefits.

Hero products include the Hydra Marine Nourishing Oil - an indulgent dry oil for the body - and the Eau De La Source perfume - a tranquil scent of ocean breezes and clean citrus. The entire range is totally refreshing and invigorating.

Pixi Hello Rose Highlighting Kit

I'm a little late jumping on the Pixi bandwagon; after seeing and hearing such good things about their skincare (hello Double Cleanse Balm and Glow Tonic all over my Instagram) I was excited to give their makeup range a try...

The Hello Rose highlighting kit (£20) contains a trio of some of Pixi's essentials for lips, cheeks and complxion; the LipLift Max Gloss in 'Sheer Rose', Beauty Blush Duo and Glow Booster skin veil in the pearlescent shade 'Pink Pearl'.

This kit is an ideal starter to Pixi's hero products and creates a soft glow for skin that is a little dull or lacklusture. Use the Glow Booster as a base for makeup or wear alone, then add the blush duo to sculpt and define cheekbones and add a warm flush of rose to the cheeks. Finally the LipLift has a lip-plumping effect to make lips look fuller without any stickiness.

Glow Booster: This sheer pearly pink liquid can either be worn alone, mixed with foundation or above foundation as a highlighter. This is by far one of my products in the kit and I've been mixing a few drops with moisturiser and foundation to add a dewy glow to my skin.

Beauty Blush Duo: In the shade 'Rose Gold', one side is a soft pink blush and the other is a golden highlighter. I've also been using the neutral shade as an eyeshadow. This powder is very soft and sheer so is perfect for a natural makeup look.

LipLift Lipstick: This lip plumper nourishing as it enhances so it feels more like a liquid lipstick. The Shade 'Sheer Rose; is the darkest of the three shades available but is still sheer enough to be worn during the day for a soft & natural look.

Thank you Pixi for letting me try out this kit! What are your favourite Pixi products?

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Collection

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Collection

When it comes to body ranges I love everything deliciously scented, but sometimes it's nice to just go back to basics and give your body some TLC. If you suffer from dry or sensitive skin it's best to use ultra-nourishing ranges that aren't overly scented or full of nasties.

The Body Shop recently launched the Almond Milk & Honey collection, which has no colourants, is hypoallergenic and is dermatologically tested for sensitive skin. While most of the classic products for sensitive skin on the market can be a little dull to use, this range combines nourishing textures and a subtle fragrance. It contains almond oil and honey - so it is as kind to the environment as it is to your skin.

One in three of us have sensitive skin, so it's important to look after our bodies!

The range consists of:
  • Soothing & Restoring Body Lotion
  • Exfoliating Cream body scrub
  • Soothing cleansing bar
  • Calming & Protecting hand cream
  • Soothing & Restoring body butter
  • Soothing & Caring bath milk
  • Soothing & caring bath cream

Birchbox March 2017

I've never been a regular subscriber to beauty boxes but I always keep an eye on the likes of Glossybox, Birchbox and Latest in Beauty if something in particular catches my eye or if they do any one-off special editions (I'm looking at you, dreamy La Mer Glossybox). I pre-registered for the March Birchbox last month after they did a sneak preview and announced they'd be including one of the new Benefit They're Real Double The Lip lipsticks in each box. There were two shades to choose from and I could select the shade in advance. So how did the rest of the box fare up?...

There were five products on this month's box - most looked like new launches, some I'd seen before and all were minis. Here is the run down of each:

#HomewareGoals

Homeware

Has anyone else been collating Homeware Inspiration on Pinterest for years, ready for when they win the lottery and finally purchase their idyllic home in Notting Hill? While in reality I'm living in a shoebox in South West London, where I can't even hang things on my walls because there's just plaster board separating me and my housemates!

In a dream world, blogger-worthy houses would have white walls for outfit photos, marble counters for flatlays and bright, natural lighting for 24 hour blogger pics.

Some of my current affordable homeware stores include Sass & Belle, Urban Outfitters, Notonthehighstreet.com and H&M's homeware range.

My current wishlist includes:
  • H&M Bedlinen - Super quirky designs and pastel colours that compliment all colour schemes
  • Panasonic Speaker System - One of the slimline designs will be ideal for playing my Spotify playlists rather than relying on my phone's speakers
  • Sass & Belle wall hangings - My plan is to have a feature wall filled with different frames

Oh My Blog! Interview with The Mum From Brum

Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day soon!) and we’re hosting Becki from The Mum From Brum.

1.      Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
My Mum is Dee (Although as a Brummie I do call her Mom!!) She works in an office but if I’m honest I’m not entirely sure what the firm does! I know she processes orders and arranges dispatches… or something! Ha! Logistics?! Not a clue…

2.      What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
I’m not sure there’s one particular thing. Although she always ends a phone conversation the same way - there’s lots of byes!

3.      Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
Julie Walters. Well, really I think it'd be a cross between her and Victoria Wood.

4.      She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
A lot of alcohol ha! And maybe a holiday, but not to some desert island, but Cornwall.

5.      What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?
Either that when I was potty training I used to poop behind the sofa, or that I was obsessed with Alastair Stewart the news reader. My aunt arranged for him to send me a birthday card for my 30th last year!

6.      What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
I tend not to plan anything, if I’m honest. I’ve always found things like birthdays and celebration make my anxiety pretty bad so I tend to stay away from planning anything; then if something nice happens I haven’t worried that it’s going to be a disaster! I’m hoping to be able to knit something for my Mom - I keep saying I will but not getting around to it.

7.      What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
She doesn’t watch a lot of TV.  I know she likes those Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away sort of programmes though.

8.      What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
She has an amazing hard work attitude - I always remember her taking on a Christmas job every year so we had a bit of extra cash, even though she was a stay at home mum to me and my siblings the rest of the year.

9.      Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
Gold Label. It’s Barley Wine. And it’s POTENT

10.  What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?
Mom and I are very different people! We’ve not always understood each other, or even always got on. Since I had my son we’ve been a lot closer, and she’s been amazingly supportive.

11.  Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
Honestly, I have no idea! I can’t imagine she’s read it, and I really doubt she’s watched it. But I could be wrong!

12.  What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
It’s a strange one! When the first Bridget Jones film came out, there was a text service where you would get quotes from the film sent to your phone - and I read one out to her that had the F word in it. Her face was a picture!!! I was 15 and I think it was the first time she’s heard me swear.

13.  What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
Well, judging by the fact that she met my dad in a pub when she was 15, a bit of a handful - but not in a bad way!

14.  Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
My mom hated it when I didn’t tell her things - and as I’m a bit of an introvert I’m not one to share my feelings out loud. While I wasn’t the most troublesome of teenagers we did have a few barneys over me wanting to have some quiet angsty time and her wanting me to tell her why I was cross. Just hormones! A few years later I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I think she struggled to understand that it wasn’t just a case of me needing to “cheer up” and that it was a genuine health condition.

15.  Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
She’s not really one for the cliches and mottos - a general sense of “sod the people judging you, do what’s best for you” comes across quite strongly though!

If you enjoyed this post, check out Becki’s blog and to keep up to date with the latest, be sure to follow her on social media!

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Duo Shadow Blender

I have to admit I went off Benefit makeup for a while as none of their new launches particularly grabbed me, but now it seems like their smashing out new product after new product and suddenly my ears are pricking up again as they all look pretty exciting!

I have a slight love hate relationship with Benefit's new launches. Some of their classic products like the blusher boxes are my all-time favourites but others such as Fine One One were a bit hit and miss with me.

The most recent one to catch my eye is the They're Real Duo Shadow Blender. I don't think there is anything on the market like it at the moment, they are little eyeshadow duos in a case with a sponge applicator to do all the hard work of blending for you. There are eight different sets available with complimentary shades - one lighter and one darker.

For someone like me who doesn't wear eyeshadow, and doesn't have the faintest clue where to start with it, it seems like a pretty nifty invention. You have to swipe the blender across a few times to pick up the product then just apply it to your eyes the same you would with a regular eyeshadow brush or sponge. The fact you have everything you need (including a built in mirror) in an easy, portable case takes all the faff out of applying makeup! They aren't the most pigmented of eyeshadows but for an easy way of creating a soft look I'd recommend giving them a go.

So are they worth the money? You can buy the eyeshadow duos individually for £19.50, which is a fairly standard Benefit price, or a kit with three smaller versions in for £28.50. The kit is a better value way of trying it out if you want to try the different shades. You can buy the blender sponges alone for £7.50, which is a little steep!

Makeup for Dry Skin to Get A Glow

For too many months now it feels like my skin has been dry, dull and in need of some serious sunshine (hurry up summer!) but recently I've found some life saving products to help me get my glow back.

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder #BrowLikeCara

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Rimmel Brow This Way Ultra Soft Powder

Gone are the days where you could slick a bit of clear mascara through your brows and hope for the best. They now need to be smoothed, plucked and filled in to perfection. Rimmel's latest collection, using the dedicated hashtag #BrowLikeCara is dedicated to brows and jam packed full of products so there is something for everyone.

One of the new launches is the Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powders. There are four shades available and they retail at £5.99 each. It comes in a pot with a built in wand, similar to an eyeliner, and is filled with a loose powder. Just shake the pot to ensure it covers the soft sponge-like wand and use it to fill, define and line your brows.

The powder is super pigmented and creates a dramatic and defined effect. In all honesty they're a little too pigmented for me (I'm pretty lazy with my brows) but for anyone that likes super strong brows I'd recommend trying them out. The only other issue I found is that some of the powder does drop off the sponge when I apply it, so you need to be careful when you use it or dab some off the excess off before applying.

Although this wasn't ideal for me for my eyebrows (however I've started using Rimmel's brow mascara instead and much prefer it!) I do use the powders as eyeliner and they work just as well.

The shades range from light brown to medium brown, dark brown and soft black. Again, as they are so pigmented I'd recommend going for a lighter shade or one as close to your hair colour as possible.
