This month, Women's Health magazine launched #SecretSweats - a series of free workouts at top boutique studios in London - in collaboration with GapFit. All details of the events were kept top secret until 48 hours beforehand, when participants were told where they would be training! Places were limited but I got to go along to one of the events held at The Detox Kitchen in Fitzrovia - and I could not wait (particularly as it was a great excuse to try out my new Olympus Pen camera!)
On arrival we got to sip some delicious healthy juices and explore The Detox Kitchen deli. The cafe offers a salad bar, juice bar, 'grab and go' food for healthy lunches or an eat in menu featuring plenty of options for brunch! The clean, fresh atmosphere made me feel so relaxed and prepared to take on my gym class.
Having had the details revealed to me a few days beforehand I knew that we would be taking part in a gym class with Karis Scarlette.
Karis was absolutely fabulous and gave us a crash course in ballet. In the space of half an hour she had us piroutetting, plieing and pliqueing like professionals! Karis has been teaching ballet for more than 25 years (I know, she does not look old enough!) and has been dancing since the age of two. Karis trained with the Royal Ballet School for years but unfortunately broke her back, which put a stop to her career. She then went through a long rehabilitation process and taught herself to dance again - which led her to use her passion for teaching to help others discover the benefits of ballet. I have never had a ballet lesson before in my life but picked up the moves very quickly and thoroughly enjoyed Karis' class.
After all that hard work it was time to tuck in to some delicious dinner with a talk and live recipe demonstration from Lily Simpson, the founder of The Detox Kitchen. She whipped up some yummy sweetcorn fritters for us and told us all about her business venture and cooking secrets (plus the fact she has been snacking on Kit Kats!)
The Detox Kitchen was originally set up as a diet food delivery service and now Lily has gone on to launch two Detox Kitchen delis, stalls in Selfridges and Planet Organic, and The Detox Kitchen Bible recipe book.
Finally we got to take home some lovely goodies including this month's Women's Health magazine, a GapFit t-shirt, Detox Kitchen juice, neat protein and yoga DVD. I had an incredible evening and am now feeling super inspired to whip up some healthy recipes of my own! Thank you so much Women's Health!
