Clarins NEW Everlasting + Foundation SPF15

Clarins has updated its best-selling long hold foundation, Everlasting, and will be launching the new Everlasting + SPF15, which has a lot more staying power, in February.

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

The new Everlasting foundation promises perfect hold for 18 hours - perfect for long days at work or evenings out. Even though I never leave my makeup on for that long, it's reassuring to know that it will stay looking good throughout the day.

What the description says...

  • 18 hours of long-lasting coverage and comfort
  • Dark sports, redness and imperfections concealed. No touch ups needed.
  • Matte finish, full coverage, suitable for all skin types
  • Enriched with quinoa extract for supple skin
  • Anti-pollution protection
  • Bamboo powder for shine control
  • UVA & UVB protection

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation
Shade 105 - Nude
Shades...

  • 102.5 Porcelain
  • 103 Ivory
  • 105 Nude
  • 107 Beige
  • 108 Sand
  • 109 Wheat
  • 110 Honey
  • 112 Amber
  • 113 Chestnut
  • 114 Cappucino
Now I have never tried the Clarins Everlasting Foundation so Everlasting + was completely new for me - and I absolutely love it. It has great medium coverage which can be built up and it is slightly dewy, leaving a luminous finish. I used shade 105 which blended really nicely into my skin and looked very natural. It evened out my skin tone and covered redness but I did find I needed a little concealer on my spots and under-eye circles. It's always hard to choose a foundation shade but luckily there are plenty to choose from. I think Nude might be slightly pale for me but I can warm it up with bronzer after.

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

It feels completely weightless on my skin and doesn't feel like I'm wearing foundation at all, which I love. I tested this out this week and wore it all day at the office. I applied it with my Real Techniques perfect face brush and didn't use any powder over the top as I wanted a luminous finish. It had perfect staying power although I did find by the end of the day there was a little shine on my forehead and cheeky as my skin is oily. However I tried it again the other day and used powder over the top to set my make-up and it didn't budge at all! Some long lasting foundations can be chalky but this is entirely different.

I will be using this on a daily basis now as it feels so weightless and doesn't clog up my pores.

Clarins New Everlasting Foundation + SPF costs £27.50 and launches on 15th February.

Recent Elemis Purchases

A couple of weekends ago I went on a spa weekend at the Macdoanld Berystede Hotel, which was amazing (there will be a separate post on that coming soon). All the products used in the spa were Elemis and I enjoyed a fabulous back massage and facial. The whole day I was eyeing up the range of Elemis products the spa stocked so I decided to treat myself to a couple of bits before I left.

I went for the Herbal Lavender Repair Mask and Fruit Active Rejuvenating Mask (both £29 for 75ml), which my spa therapist had used on me during the treatment and recommended. The Lavender mask is designed for combination/hormonal skin that is prone to congestion - my skin had flared up a couple of days before the spa day due to tiredness and this settled it perfectly. It is an oil-absorbing, healing and regenerating mask which contains rosemary, thyme and lavender to heal and calm the skin, making it purified and re-balanced.

The Fruit Active mask is more of a brightening and moisturusing mask. It is packed with strawberry and kiwi and, for me, it is an all-round mask that ticks all the boxes. It helps to deep cleanse the skin but the lovely creamy texture also adds a glow and is a pick-me-up treat for tired skin. I've been using it as a quick treatment before going out in the evenings to wake my skin up a bit, and also use it at the end of the week as a treat for my skin after a week of work!

Before purchasing these I had never used Elemis products before so I was very excited to give them a go. They are a little pricey, I was disappointed as the size of the tubes given the boxes were so much bigger, but I am willing to pay a bit more for high end skincare and I have been very impressed with them so far!

What are your favourite Elemis products?

The Floral Republic is on Facebook.

Img src: Sincerely Damaris
Today's post is just a quick one as, after months of deliberating whether or not it would be worth it, I have finally set up a Facebook page for my blog! It is looking very lonely at the moment so I would appreciate it if anyone could give it a like and I'd be more than willing to like your pages in return. I always like to see blog pictures on my news feed and I think it will be a great place for me to share posts as I think some of my non-blogger Twitter followers must be getting fed up of me on there!

The Floral Republic is on Facebook here! Let me know if you have a Facebook page for your blog and I will take a look :)

Thank you!

Sunday Pamper Sessions

Sundays are generally pretty lazy days for me so in the evenings I like to have a little pamper session and have a  nice bath and unwind with a good hair mask and face mask ready for the week ahead. These are just some of the products I will use.

Face:

After taking off my make-up I like to use a deep cleansing mask like Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask which warms up on contact with the skin and contains charcoal to leave the skin clean and purified. Sometimes I will then follow it up with a brightening mask like Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel (review herewhich is a great brightening solution and non-abrasive exfoliator. Then I'll use Paul & Joe Refreshing Skin Toner and follow it up with a night cream or a little bit of Paul & Joe Moisturising Facial Mask (which I'll leave on overnight).

Body:
I always like to give my body a good exfoliation in case I have any fake tan residue and to help improve circulation and keep it moisturised. At the moment I am loving Sanctuary 4 Day Moisture Oil Scrub (review herewhich keeps my skin softer for longer. Then I use a relaxing bubble bath or something sweet-smelling such as Soap & Glory Clean on Me Creamy Shower Gel. Once I have dried off I'll slather my body in a rich body moisturiser. I love Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter as it smells amazing and is extremely moisturising.

Tan:
Every now and then I will follow up my bath with a fake tan application too as I get very pasty in the Winter months and a little dose of colour keeps me looking healthy. I apply my fake tan in the evenings with a quick-drying tan such as Montana Tan 1 Hour Tanning Mousse. I love it as it doesn't transfer onto pyjamas or bed sheets and doesn't feel sticky on the skin while it's developing. I use it on my face as well but top it up with Xen-Tan Face Tanner Luxe in the morning to add a healthy glow!

What are your favourite pampering products? Have you tried any of these before?

Recent Clarins Purchases

Among my many beauty products that are overflowing in my bedroom and bathroom cabinets I recently realised I don't have just a normal, everyday facewash and moisturiser. So while out shopping one afternoon I took to House of Fraser to invest in them! I have used a couple of Clarins products before so decided on them as I thought they would be the best brand to use on a daily basis.

I went for the Gentle Foaming Cleanser for dry skin (£19) and Daily Energiser Cream (£21). For everyday moisturisation I was recommended to use the Hydra-Quench moisturiser but I settled on this one as it adds freshness and a healthy glow, which I often need in the mornings! The woman at the counter kindly gave me some small samples of the Hydra-Quench moisturiser though so I will see how I get on with those.

So far I have found the face wash very gentle on my skin while still leaving it clean and soft! The moisturiser is also great for daily use and I don't find it too thick on my skin.

Have you tried any of these products before? What are your favourite Clarins products?

Latest in Beauty: The Glamour Party Beauty Edit Box

Latest in Beauty have launched another collaboration with Glamour magazine to bring you the Glamour Party Beauty Edit and the box is jam packed full of wonderful products! I was a huge fan of the last Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit box I bought and I'd seen some reviews going round for this one so decided I had to have it!

The box contains:
L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin mini hairspray (75ml)
Wild About Beauty powder eyeshadow (2.5g. Six variations)
Popband (Full size. Two bands)
Philip Kingsley Moisturse Balancing shampoo & conditioner (both 20ml)
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer (Full size. Three variations)
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Amethyst (full size)
Collection Lengthening mascara (ful size)
Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels (1 pair of gels)
Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 & Idealia Life Serum (30ml & 3ml)
LOLA Nail Polish (11ml. In either Stone Grey or Bluebell)
Xen-Tan Luminous Gold Gel (30ml)

As you can tell, it is brimming with goodies! I haven;t got round to using all the products yet but I am especially excited to try the Vichy skincare samples as I have never used anything by that brand before. I also can't wait to use the Popbands as I have heard rave reviews and the Burt's Bees lip balm also looks gorgeous.

In terms of product variations I received the Wild About Beauty eyshadow in '04 - Becca' which is a shimmery bronze colour. My Burt's Bees lip shimmer was in the shade 'Rhubarb' which is a deep raspberry shade, but it comes out very sheer (it also smells amazing!) and I received the Lola nail polish in the shade 'Stone Grey'. This is a lovely shiny nail polish and I can't wait to use it.

Unfortunately my box was missing the Xen-Tan luminous gel which is such a shame as I love their products and was looking forward to trying it! However, I have contacted Latest in Beauty and am hoping they will send out another.

The box also comes with a few cards which explain what product is, and some other cards with special discount offers for the brands included in the box in case you want to purchase any of them again in future!

I love the Latest in Beauty boxes as they are little treats you can get for yourself whenever you want without signing up to a subscription. The samples are generous sizes and perfect for popping in travel bags!

The Latest in Beauty Glamour Party Beauty Edit usually costs £16.99 but there is currently 20% off with the code GLAM20, plus delivery is free! I can't recommend it enough. You can purchase it here.

LIFESTYLE: My picks for evening & night time running.

SportsShoes hi-viz running clothes and NIKE trainers

One of my New Year's resolutions, like many other peoples', was to do more exercise. I enjoy going to the gym and doing group fitness classes but something I really want to do more of is running. I love being outside in the fresh air plus it is one of the simplest and easiest calorie burners that you can take entirely at your own pace.

Because I work long hours during the week I am very limited on time and can usually only running at the weekends, when it is light. But I am determined to fit in a quick ten-minute run in the evenings when I get home from work.

Many people, including myself, might be put off running in the evenings because it gets dark so quickly at the moment. But I have recently stocked up on some new running gear that keeps me warm and means I can be seen by drivers and other runners or pedestrians.

Clockwise from left: Nike dri-fit running top £29.99, Nike Zoom Pegasus running shoes £66.49, Karrimor reflective jacket £9.99, Karrimor headband £4.99

Firstly I invested in a new pair of running shoes from SportsShoes.com . It is a specialist running and fitness wear retailer and stocks pretty much everything from clothing to accessories at great prices from leading brands. Some websites that stock a lot of products can be very difficult and time-consuming to trawl through and it can be hard to spot something you like, but the thing I love about SportsShoes is that, rather than there just being a Men or Womens section, there are lots of different categories and even a special Hi Viz & Night Running section so you can find exactly what you need quickly! Plus the website has a Price Beat Promise so you can get some great deals and some items will be cheaper than elsewhere.

I chose the Nike Zoom Pegasus women's running shoes. These retail for £94.99 but were only £66.49 from SportsShoes! I went for these as they cushion the feet and have great ankle support for running. Plus they have a reflective mesh so you can be seen outside in the dark!

NIKE trainers

I also got a Nike Dri-Fit fleece running top (£29.99 instead of £59.99). Dri-Fit works to wick moisture and sweat away from the skin to keep you drier and comfortable when running. This fleecy top keeps me nice and warm when it's cold outside and the high cowl neck keeps my neck warm too. It has a little drawstring toggle on the back so you can adjust it. This top is so soft and is one of the most comfortable things to run in, I would recommend this to anyone!

My next purchases were from Sports Direct. They have a huge sale on at the moment so you can pick up some great bargains. I got myself a pink reflective running jacket which was £9.99 (reduced from £49.99! bargain!) and a reflective headband for £4.99, reduced from £9.99. The Karrimor jacket is very lightweight and breathable so I can layer up and just wear this as a thin layer on the top. You can pop it on over anything so you can be seen in the dark and it has two pockets if you need to store keys or your phone.

I also got myself the headband as my ears often get cold when I run so I can just pop this on and tuck them in! Plus it keeps my hair back and out of my face.

Do you do a lot of outdoor running? What are your favourite things to wear to keep fit in?

LIFESTYLE: Writing One Line A Day for the next five years...

As a teenager I always used to keep diary and it was hilarious to look back on them and reminisce on the struggles of having homework, school crushes, teachers being 'idiots' etc. and I have always thought about starting a diary again in my adult life but I don't know if I could ever find the time to sit down and write down all my ramblings from the day. Plus I think I would end up talking rubbish most of the time just to fill a page.

Then I came across a diary with a twist - One Line A Day: a five-year memory book.

It is pretty much exactly what it says. A diary where you fill in one line (it's more like five lines but enough for one or two sentences) every day for a year, then again for the next five years. Each page is split into five sections so you can fill in the year at the top, then re-visit the same page on that date a year later.

I love the idea as you don't have to fill in much, just a straight forward record of your thoughts, and it will be so fun to re-visit them years later. For example, on January 1 I wrote down my New Year's resolutions (it'll be interesting to see how these change year on year).

I came across the diary in Urban Outfitters a while ago but I haven't seen it in there since so I had a scout around on the internet and ordered it at the end of December in time for it to arrive so I could start it at the beginning of January. I ordered mine from the Book Depository and it cost £8.39 with free delivery, which was amazing value as the diary retails for around £10-£15 on its own. It can also be purchased from Amazon.

I keep mine next to my bed so I remember to fill it in each night before I go to sleep. I love that the book is quite small so it is compact and easy to store! I've kept to it every day so far and am determined to keep up with it.

Admittedly, my life is pretty boring during the week (work every day followed by meetings or gym sessions) so rather than just recording an account of my day I also like to fill in personal things like inspiring or motivational quotes, my thoughts for the day, goals and targets I hope to achieve, etc.

Do you keep a diary? Would you enjoy trying out One Line A Day?

Boots SEVENTEEN Limited Edition Jewel Heist Eyeshadow Palette

I picked up this eye palette, which was free with two purchases, from the SEVENTEEN range at Boots just before Christmas. It contains three eyeshadows which are all inspired by gem-like colours along with a gel black eyeliner. The soft nude and coppery brown colours can be used across the whole lid and I use the bold turqoise colour in the corners of my eye or along the lash line to create a dramatic effect. I use a wet eyeliner brush to draw the black gel colour along my top lash line. As I have blue eye the turqoise colour really makes them pop.

The palette is neatly contained in this jewel-like compact. I love to use this for evening wear to create a dramatic look when matched with simple make-up. The palette costs £5.99 from Boots and is limited edition, but I think there are still some left in some stores and it is available online too.

W7 Africa Bronzer - a Benefit dupe?

When it comes to beauty products I am a sucker for cute packaging and design so this little bronzer box from W7 ticks all the right boxes for me! I saw a few reviews of Africa pop up online and heard some bloggers compare it to the Benefit box o'powder blushes so I thought I would try it out for myself...

W7 describe Africa as a multi-bronzing face powder for an all year round summer look. So firstly the packaging, as this is what caught my eye! Africa comes in a small black 8g box with a lift off lid. Inside is a plastic tray containing a small brush, which can be lifted out, and underneath reveals a leopard print pattern of bronze, a darker brown and shimmery pink. There is a picture of the design on the bottom of the box as well as the ingredients.

The boxes are very similar to the Benefit blushers although I find the lid does come loose sometimes so I have to pick it up from the bottom or else it falls off. The brush is very soft and has cute pink dip-dyed ends, but I always prefer to use my own larger brushes so don't bother using this one!

Onto the product itself, the first time I used this my brush picked up mostly the dark brown colour and it didn't sit right on my skin. The powder feels quite thick to touch in the box so the brush doesn't glide across as smoothly. However, using a different brush I managed to swirl it around a bit more and it picked up more of the pinky colour. It does come out quite bright and shimmery so, although this is meant to be a bronzer I found I could only use it on my cheeks as it looked more like a blush.

It does look nice on the cheeks and is quite pigmented. I wouldn't really say it gave a 'summery' look as the colour was quite bold and had a warm-tone, which I think would be more suited to a night out.

Overall this product wasn't quite what I was expecting and I wouldn't say it is an exact dupe for Benefit as I don't think it has the same quality or soft colour, however, for a fraction of the price you can't complain! W7 Africa costs around £3.49  whereas Benefit blushers cost £23.50. I don't think this is a face powder I will us regularly and I may have to wait until the summer when I will hopefully have a bit more of a tan on my face! But I am still a huge fan of the packaging and think this is really good value for what you get.

W7 have a great range of bargain makeup and although I wasn't overly sold on this product I am looking forward to trying out some of their different boxed powders! I am also a huge fan of their mascaras (especially Lashtastic). W7 can be purchased from Asda, selected Next retailers, Xtras and Fragrance Direct. A full list of stockists can be found on their website here.

Have you used this face powder before or tried out anything else from W7? What did you think?

Free 2015 Printable Blog Planner

Picture from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
Blog planners are perfect for helping me to organise and schedule posts, and now that I'm trying to balance working and blogging more they are pretty much essential!

Now, I could just go out and buy a cheapy diary to use as a planner but I recently came across this free printable blog planner for 2015 from Confessions of a Homeschooler and I love it!

It has monthly calendar pages as well as separate pages to note down monthly statistics, post ideas and notes, tweets, pinterest pins and more. Plus there are separate pages to keep a record of blog advertising, giveaways and brainstorming and ideas.

It's lovely and colourful and so useful for tracking scheduled posts. There is also a separate download for a weekly blog planner in case anyone wanted to download that.

After I downloaded the planner I printed it double sided (I skipped out a few of the blog advertising and giveaway pages to save on printing!) and stapled it all together. Obviously you can take it to a shop and get it spiral bound and add a plastic cover if you wanted to turn it into a proper notebook or planner but I was quite happy to staple mine to save on money!

A huge thank you to Erica from Confessions of a Homeschooler for making this!

Do you use a blog planner? What are yours like?

New Year's Beauty Resolutions & A Look Back at 2014...

Happy New Year everyone! Oddly it doesn't actually feel like a new year for me and I feel like the year was only just getting started halfway through 2014 so instead of starting afresh I'm picking up where I left of. 2013 was a very big year for me (I graduated, got my first graduate job as a journalist, started a relationship and my blog was shortlisted for the Cosmo Blog Awards) so when 2014 came around last year I thought it would be pretty hard to top it. Nevertheless it was successful and I  made some accomplishments! Mainly joining a gym and actually going, progressing at work and feeling a lot more confident in my role, continuing my blog, going on a wonderful holiday and taking better care of my money.

I got to interview Jacqueline Wilson this year, my favourite childhood author!

So, I have set myself a few New Year's Resolutions for 2015...

    • Get more sleep - I am guilty of being exhausted in the day but, instead of going to bed early just staying up on my laptop and feeling awful the next morning! A good night's sleep makes for good looking skin the next day.
    • Clear out my make-up bag and wardrobe - If anything is starting to look a bit worse for year I am going to chuck it out and start afresh. Some of my products have been festering in my bag for well over a  year.... clumpy mascara, ew. My wardrobe is also brimming to the seam so I need to be ruthless.
    • Read more books - This sort of links to the first resolution as I like to read before bed to help me drift off, but I rarely read anymore and want to get back into it.
    • Be healthier and do more outdoor running - In 2014 I enjoyed going to group fitness classes at the gym and I am going to try and increase these this year but I also want to improve my running too. I love to get out in the fresh air and have been enjoying going to parkrun (A free weekly 5k event) so I am going to keep this up too!
What have been some of your accomplishments in 2014? Have you set any New Year's resolutions?..
