Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals Review

Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals

The beauty industry is always looking to provide new, innovative products. These days a lot of women are busier, have less time and want good quality products. The latest launch from luxury self-tan brand Vita Liberata promises to be an immovative multi-tasker, as it is the first self-tanning bronzer.

Trystal Minerals is a mineral bronzing powder that doubles a self-tanner, building up a gradual tan with each use. The DHA tanning agent in Trystal Minerals reacts with skin when applied over moisturiser or foundation - ideal for paler girls that don't like to use self tan, or to top up self tan in between applications.

Available in two shades, Sunkissed and Bronze, the product comes with a specially designed kabuki brush for application.

My thoughts

Packaging: At a first glance I was very impressed with the packaging. It is simple but of a high quality. The included brush is extremely soft (always a bonus!) and the pot of minerals is very sturdy and distributes an even amount of powder when you tip it out.

Experience: As a bronzer, I love this. I use it all over the face to give my skin a warm glow, and as a separate contour. However, in terms of it building up a natural tan, I haven't noticed any results. I use it daily but it hasn't build up much of a tan on my face unfortunately. After a bit of research I have found out that the tanning agents are meant to work best when the bronzer is applied over moisturiser, rather than foundation, so this could be a reason, but for me I much prefer this as a bronzer rather than a self tanner.

I'm really pleased I tried this and it has lasted me for months, but with a £35 price tag I don't think it lives up to its hype!

Runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'!

One of my New Year's Resolutions for 2015 was to start running more and, unlike other faddy resolutions like lose weight, eat healthier, I'm pleased to say I actually kept this one up! I am by no means a long distance runner but even the smallest accomplishments in terms of time and distance make me feel so proud.

In the summer I practiced extensively for the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK and was so happy to shave a few minutes of my 5k personal best and raise money for charity at the same time! A few weeks ago I took on the Fleet 10k and while I was by no means the fastest across the finish line it was an amazing feeling to know I had achieved my first ever 10k!

With the weather getting colder and the evenings getting darker it is harder to keep up my running but Cancer Research UK is encouraging more people to get out and about this Winter as the London Winter Series returns! The run series is a 10km run through the streets of Liverpool, London and Manchester, passing iconic landmarks along the way. I will be entering the London event for January 2016!

London Winter Run Series

If you would like to enter any of the events planned you can get £3 off entry with the code 'SIMPELLE'.  All details of the events can be found here: winterrunseries.co.uk. Hope to see you there!

Passionata teaches me a lesson in bra fitting

For years I have read articles about how a certain percentage of women aren't wearing the correct bra size, how important it is to get fitted, etc... but frankly, I usually just ignored them because I assumed I was wearing the right size! Admittedly I had never been for a bra fitting in my entire life, I just guessed, and as my bras seemed to fit me I didn't see what the issue was.

Then Passionata invited me for a fitting so I thought 'why not?'! I popped along to my nearest concession at my local House of Fraser store on my lunch break and was looked after by their fitter, Sarah. After taking a few measurements I was surprised to find out I was actually a cup size bigger and band size smaller than I had thought - while this isn't a major difference in measurements it made a huge difference in terms of the fit and comfort of bras I tried on. I was also talked through how certain styles of bra are more suited to different clothing - for example, balconette bras work with boxy tops with square necklines.

Passionata refer to their service as a bra fitting rather than measuring because it is all about trying on different shape & style bras and finding the ones that feel most comfortable for you. I was also surprised to learn that bras should always be worn on the loosest hook and gradually tightened the more you wear them, as the elastic wears down. This confirmed for me that I had been wearing the wrong bra size all my life as all my bras have been worn on the tightest hook!

In the short space of time I was with Passionata (like I said, this was all done in my lunch break!) I felt like I had learnt a lot and was ready to replace my underwear drawer! As a thank you, Passionata kindly sent me an underwear set in the post afterwards - I chose the 'Let's Play' set. The bra fits perfectly and is very comfortable to wear, I almost forget I'm wearing it!

For anyone worried about getting a bra fitting because they think it will be awkward I urge anyone to get it done! I felt so comfortable and relaxed throughout the whole process and it was extremely beneficial. Thank you Passionata!

Lush Summer Launch Event

I was recently invited to the LUSH Southampton store to find out more about their brand new range of products for summer. Having already seen a few sneak peek blog posts I was very excited! On arrival the wonderful team at the Southampton shop had set up the 'Layer Cake Bar' which was inspired by their brand new layer cake soap. There were plenty of fruits for us to tuck in to (all of which can be found in the soap) and juices for us to mix together.

Last weekend I was very lucky to go along to the Southampton Bloggers Meet! Having been so busy recently I hadn't been to a blog event in ages and was very excited to meet some new lovely faces. Becky from BeckyBedbug very kindly offered me a lift so after a successful journey down the M3 it was time to meet up with everyone at Revolution in Southampton.

Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Bronzing Compact

Clarins Aquatic Treasures bronzer

With every new product launch, Clarins impresses me more and more. The summer Aquatic Treasures collection is absolutely beautiful and, for me, the product that stands out most is this bronzer.

It has a very intricate design and its best feature is that fact it is split into four quarters, each slightly varying in shade, so it suits all skin tones. I find that swirling all four shades together is too dark for me so I just mix the two lightest shades and use the darker as a contour, as each shades have a matte finish. Due to the size of the palette it is so easy to just use one shade if you wish.

I usually prefer to have a bit of shimmer in my bronzers but this is perfect for just adding a bit of warmth to my skin. This bronzer costs £30, which I think is great value because it is a very large compact and will see you through for a long time.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush

clinique cheek pop

clinique pop blush

Clinique has recently added some brand new shades to its range of Cheek Pop Blushes which are super sheer and soft for summer! The cute range of blushes first came of the scene last year and I picked up a very bright fuschia pink so I decided to pick up one of the softer shades when it was released.

Get the glow; my favourite illuminators

Last month I jetted off on a wonderful holiday to Crete! Arriving at the airport nice and early I had plenty of time for a spend up in duty free and, luckily, enough Boots points for a few last minute makeup purchases before boarding the plane to help me get my holiday glow! I went for Soap & Glory's Hocus Focus flaw-softening illuminator and Glow All Out luminizing powder. I also took my Clinique chubby stick highlighter on holiday with me.

Hocus Focus is a wonderful liquid illuminator and looks great mixed in with foundation to add a little glow. Glow All Out is a pink-toned shimmery powder, so I like to use this over my foundation on my cheeks.
The Clinique chubby stick is a handy little tool. Rather than spend time faffing with pouring out liquid and dabbing it on my cheeks I can just draw along my cheekbones and browbones and voila!

Korres CC Cream

Korres CC Cream

Summer, foundation and I just don't mix well together. As soon as it gets remotely warm my face is cakey, sweaty mess and any makeup I had on is sliding down to my chin by lunchtime. During the day I prefer to go for mineral makeup - I love BareMinerals - but in the evening I like a bit more coverage something to give me a glow. In comes Korres CC Cream.

SASS Intimate Soothe & Smooth Shave Gel

SASS Intimate Soothe & Smooth Shave Gel

This is probably the fanciest shave gel I have ever seen. I remember flicking through a magazine and seeing an advert for the SASS range and wondered what it was, only to do a double take when I saw it was a range of 'intimate' products.

Weekend in Amsterdam

So a couple of weeks ago I spent a lovely long weekend in Amsterdam with a group of friends. It is a beautiful city and one I would definitely recommend visiting if you haven't already. We crammed as much in as possible during our four-day stay and did a lot of walking - and eating. Here's a little rundown of what we got up to and spots I would recommend visiting...

Byron Hamburgers opens in Camblerley

There are soo many places to get a burger these days, but how do you know which is "the one"?! Where serves the best burgers in town?? I don't know. So when Byron burgers opened up in my local town I was very excited to give them a go. There are plenty of restaurants locally to me that serve burgers, but no specific burger joints (like GBK) so I think Byron is a welcome addition to the town!

My experience of becoming a Journalist.

Hi all, I've been spending some time working on this post and it's a little word heavy so I apologize, but hopefully some of you will take the time to read it! I don't really talk about my job too much in my blog as I use this as a personal space to ramble about beauty and shopping! But in a couple of recent posts I have had a few comments asking about my job and how I find it etc. so I thought I'd share my story on how I became a journalist and what it is like. Hopefully it will be of some use to anyone at university or considering a similar career path!

Clarins 'Sweet Rose' Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour

Spring is finally here and I am in love with Clarins' new spring collection. One of my favourite pieces is the Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour in the shade Sweet Rose - a duo of pretty pastel pinks. The blush is described as a silky, lightweight powder which contains the perfect combination of mineral and plant extracts. It adds subtle colour and luminosity to the cheeks for an instant glow.

The beautiful mosaic palette is made up of two different shades and finishes - one matte shade which adds colour and a sheer blush that adds luminosity and radiance. My favourite aspect is the gold compact that comes with a red velvet ouch, adding a touch of elegance and luxury! It comes with a small brush which is good quality, although a little too small for me so I prefer to use my own brush separately.

Both of the shades are gorgeous and perfect for Spring as they are very soft and natural. This is the first blush by Clarins I have tried and I love it, it's amazing quality for £26.50

Beauty Kitchen Inspire Me Brightening & Toning Body Oil

Beauty Kitchen Body Oil

Beauty Kitchen Body Oil

Beauty Kitchen is a lovely range of 100% natural, affordable and effective skin and body care products. I recently tried their brightening & toning body oil (£14.99) and instantly fell in love!

Unlike some body oils, which can be greasy, this oil is absorbed almost instantly and helps to smooth skin and make it look healthy and glowing. It smells absolutely divine and is perfect for cellulite or stretch marks. The only thing I've found is it isn't overly moisturising, so if you have dry skin you might be better off using a body butter or lotion.

I love Beauty Kitchen's cute packaging and their lovely range of gifts.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector Review

Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

Yet another of my favourite products from Clarins' new Spring collection are the Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors (£18.) Part skin care, part makeup they moisturise lips and a hint of subtle, sheer colour.

They contain Vitamin E extracts of mango and shea to moisturise lips for around 4 hours. The consistency is gel-like and melts on application. The lip-nourishing ingredients are said to improve the appearance of your lips and make them look fuller.

There are six shades available and I have 02 Coral, 03 My Pink and 06 Rosewood. My Pink is by far my favourite - a barely-there pastel pink. Coral is a light peachy shade and Rosewood is a slightly darker pinky-brown shade. The colour is so subtle I wouldn't even say they are tinted lip balms as they don't add opaque colour, just a light tint with a glossy finish. I think all six shades would suit most skin tones and are perfect for day wear.

The packaging is beautiful - compact enough to pop in your handbag and the lipstick tube is sleek and elegant

These lip balms are perfect for summer and I am very excited about these little beauties!

Have you tried the Instant Light lip balms? What are your favourite Clarins products?

Sleek Face Form contouring palette review

Sleek Face Form contouring palette

Sleek Face Form contouring palette
Sleek Face Form Palette | Light | £9.99

Sleek's Face Form palette instantly adds definition and colour to the face. It includes a bronzer, highlighting powder and blusher. There are four shades available - Fair, Light, Medium and Dark.

Each of the powders are well pigmented and are easy to apply, the blusher is slightly more sheer. Firstly I use a contouring brush (or you can use a small powder brush) to apply the bronzer just underneath my cheekbones. It's best to apply it lightly as there's a risk it can look 'dirty' if you press too hard. It doesn't look too dark or obvious when applied but creates a subtle amount of defintion. The bronzer is a matte brown shade so is perfect for contouring - I wouldn't recommend using it as an all over bronzer as I prefer to go for something with a bit of shimmer,

Then I use a powder brush to sweep the highlighter along the tops of my cheekbones and under my brow bone. The highlighter is a beautiful champagne shade and illuminates my skin. Finally I apply the blush with a fluffy blusher brush. I love this blush as it helps to make my cheeks pop and adds a subtle hint of colour without being too shimmery or bright,

Sleek Face Form contouring palette

I have loved using this palette and it is perfect for travelling as you won't need to carry three separate products - I will be taking it with me on holiday this year! Plus for only £9.99 it's a bargain!

Sheer Cover Studio Introductory Kit

Sheer Cover Studio Introductory Kit

Aloha! I am a huge fan of mineral make-up after buying the Bare Minerals starter kit, and then various other Bare Minerals products (you can see a recent haul here). So when I was given the opportunity to try out a Sheer Cover kit, I was excited to see how it compared. The Sheer Cover Studio Introductory Kit costs £29.99 and is available in three shades - light, medium or dark. I chose the light kit,

It contains: Sheer Cover Studio Perfect Shade mineral foundation, conceal and brighten trio, lengthening mascara, lash extending fibres, sun-kissed bronzing minerals and a foundation brush, blush brush and concealer brush.

Back after a break from blogging!

Hello all! It has been more than a month since I posted and, apart from feeling a little guilty about the amount of reviews I had to do, it was very refreshing! I must say now that I admire anyone that can work full time and still make time to blog. Because I work long hours, sat at a computer all day, sometimes coming home from work and sitting down to a computer again for the rest of the evening is the last thing I want to do! After work, I like to go to the gym or just spend some time relaxing, so my blog has taken a back seat for the last few weeks.

Sometimes I think it's nice to spend some time away from my blog because I think experiencing real things can be more important than page views, comments and everything else in the blogging world - if that makes sense! That being said, I thoroughly enjoy blogging and have made some wonderful friends and got to take part in some wonderful opportunities because of it. Anyway, after finally taking some time to sit down with my laptop and catch up on my Bloglovin feed I am looking forward to getting back into things again!

Weekly make-up favourites

After Christmas I vowed to have a make-up bag cleanse, throw out any old products and start again with a few staple pieces of make-up. These are some of the products I have been using regularly and loved this week...

Clinque High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara This is great for everyday use and does lengthen my eyelashes. I need a couple of layers for it to make more of an impact in the evenings.

Clarins Everlasting+ Foundation. I recently reviewed this here. It is a great foundation and have worn it pretty much everyday since getting it, it really does last all day!

Clarins Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour in 'Sweet Rose' This is another of my favourites from Clarins. It is from their new Spring collection and is very soft and sheer, perfect for a natural look.

Benefit Hoola bronzer I'm very washed out at the moment so need this for a bit of colour. Hoola is very matte so works well for highlighting and sculpting.

2True eyebrow pencil My eyebrow pencil recently broke and I didn't want to spend loads on a new one so picked this up from Superdrug for £1.99! It is double ended so has a brush on one end and pencil on the other, it's great value and does the job perfectly! The colour isn't too strong either.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in 'Plushest Punch' I love Clinique's chubby sticks as they are really moisturising and work like a tinted lip balm. They also do the 'baby tint' range which has a hint of colour. The intense range has a stronger colour and is a bit more like a lipstick. I love this pinky raspberry colour.

Have you tried any of these make-up products? What are some of your favourite make-up products?

OOTD: New Look Lilac coat.

New Look Lilac pastel coat

New Look Lilac pastel coat

New Look Lilac pastel coat

Today's OOTD is a chilly one. Despite the fact the sun is shining it was extremely windy so luckily I wasn't going far today as I had a day off work! I've been dying to wear this lilac coat for a while, which I picked up from New Look in the sale for £30! What do you think?

I teamed it with skinny jeans from New Look and heeled black boots from River Island. The stripy top worn underneath is from Free People at ASOS.

After a quick snap inside it was back to revision for my upcoming journalism exam. Have a great weekend!

A Bare Minerals Haul...

I have become a huge fan of Bare Minerals since purchasing the Get Started kit a while back (see my review here). I recently stocked up on a few extras to add to my collection!...

Firstly I bought the Ready SPF 15 Touch up Veil powder in 'Light' (£22). This powder diffuses the look of imperfections while reducing shine. I love this powder and have been using it to set up my make-up and mop up any shine throughout the day. The thing I love most is that it brightens the face rather than looking cakey or chalky. It does have a translucent shade if you prefer not to add any hint of colour.

I also got the Ultimate Radiance Collection kit (£25) which contains four radiant face colours and a mini soft focus face brush. The radiance colours are very sheer and I use them on my cheeks to perk up my collection. The shades are flawless, ruby, luxe and pure - a range of rose, gold peach and cream.

Lastly I got the 'In a New Light' set which had been reduced to £23 in the sale. The collection contains an All-over Face Colour in 'Rose' (a very light pink blusher), Eye Bright eyecolour, Sweet Talker Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss, Well-rested face and eye brightener and a double ended luxe cheek and eye brush. Eye bright and Well-Rested have become some of my favourite products, they brighten the face instantly!

Finally, I received a free 5ml sample of the new Mineralixirs facial oil with my order. I have used this on my skin daily for the last few days and it has been very moisturising without being too overly oily.

Have you used any of these Bare Minerals products before? What are your favourite products from the bramd?

Top Skincare Products for Problem Skin

As a teenager I had awful acne and although my skin seems to have improved slightly as I've got older, I am still prone to breakouts. Generally I find my skin flares up most when I am tired or stressed, so a good night's sleep is one of the top healers for my skin. I have also found that exercising more has improved my skin. However, when my skin is suffering these are the products I go to for help...

Skinetica ~ Skinetica is a scientifically developed acne treatment that works like a toner. It is a clear, scent free liquid that can either be applied directly to spots or all over the face. It is very gentle on the skin and doesn't have any side effects such as tingly skin. Once it has dried you're free to put moisturiser or make-up on over the top. It calms down my skin and reduces the size of large spots. £9.50 available online

Dr Organic Dead Sea Mineral Bio-plasma Mud Mask ~ I got this in my Latest in Beauty Party Prep Box and am in love with it! I've been using it every week. This is a detoxing and anti-ageing treatment that contains dead sea mineral salt, aloe vera, mint, Vitamin C and all sorts of other lovely goodness. It tingles when I apply it on my skin, which helps me to know it's working, then dries into a clay mask. When I was it off my skin looks a lot clearer and enlarged pores have disappeared. This is excellent value at just £7.99, available from Holland & Barrett.

Origins Super Spot Remover ~ This little bottle is very powerful and has been raved about by bloggers for a long time. It is an award winning product and I can see why. This on-the-spot treatment gel heals spots quickly and diminish any redness. It is a little pricey at £15 but definitely worth it for targeted treatment. Available online or from Origins counters.

Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask ~ Often my skin might not necessarily be spotty, just a bit hormonal and congested. If you suffer with similar skin problems then this is ideal. It contains rosemary, thyme and lavender which re-balance and purify the skin. Best suited to sallow and congested skin types. It can be used on the whole face, as a quick fix or as an overnight spot treatment . £29 but can be found cheaper online!

Clarins NEW Everlasting + Foundation SPF15

Clarins has updated its best-selling long hold foundation, Everlasting, and will be launching the new Everlasting + SPF15, which has a lot more staying power, in February.

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

The new Everlasting foundation promises perfect hold for 18 hours - perfect for long days at work or evenings out. Even though I never leave my makeup on for that long, it's reassuring to know that it will stay looking good throughout the day.

What the description says...

  • 18 hours of long-lasting coverage and comfort
  • Dark sports, redness and imperfections concealed. No touch ups needed.
  • Matte finish, full coverage, suitable for all skin types
  • Enriched with quinoa extract for supple skin
  • Anti-pollution protection
  • Bamboo powder for shine control
  • UVA & UVB protection

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation
Shade 105 - Nude
Shades...

  • 102.5 Porcelain
  • 103 Ivory
  • 105 Nude
  • 107 Beige
  • 108 Sand
  • 109 Wheat
  • 110 Honey
  • 112 Amber
  • 113 Chestnut
  • 114 Cappucino
Now I have never tried the Clarins Everlasting Foundation so Everlasting + was completely new for me - and I absolutely love it. It has great medium coverage which can be built up and it is slightly dewy, leaving a luminous finish. I used shade 105 which blended really nicely into my skin and looked very natural. It evened out my skin tone and covered redness but I did find I needed a little concealer on my spots and under-eye circles. It's always hard to choose a foundation shade but luckily there are plenty to choose from. I think Nude might be slightly pale for me but I can warm it up with bronzer after.

Clarins Everlasting+ foundation

It feels completely weightless on my skin and doesn't feel like I'm wearing foundation at all, which I love. I tested this out this week and wore it all day at the office. I applied it with my Real Techniques perfect face brush and didn't use any powder over the top as I wanted a luminous finish. It had perfect staying power although I did find by the end of the day there was a little shine on my forehead and cheeky as my skin is oily. However I tried it again the other day and used powder over the top to set my make-up and it didn't budge at all! Some long lasting foundations can be chalky but this is entirely different.

I will be using this on a daily basis now as it feels so weightless and doesn't clog up my pores.

Clarins New Everlasting Foundation + SPF costs £27.50 and launches on 15th February.
