As part of my New Year's Resolution to be healthier and try and tone up in time for my summer holiday I have started using the new Misfit Shine fitness tracker. It is a fitness monitor that can be worn on the wrist, as a necklace or anywhere on the body that tracks walking and sleeping patterns and tracks all the information back to an app on your phone. Plus it is entirely waterproof so can be worn in the shower and while swimming!
All the information is stored in this little disk, which can you can clip onto your clothes or wear on your wrist.
Once you have got the Shine out of the packaging and inserted the battery, you download the app to your phone and sync the Shine to it (the instructions state you need to put the disk on your phone but it actually can just be near the phone as it uses bluetooth to connect) then voila you are ready to go! The app sets you targets of how many steps you need to take per day and you just tap on the shine throughout the day and it will light up to show you how close to reaching your target you are! What's great is it can also monitor how long you sleep for - you just tap on it three times to let it know you are going to sleep and tap on it again when you wake up and it will track how many hours of deep sleep you had. The Shine will also let you know how many calories you have burnt throughout the day.
I'm not entirely sure how accurate the tracker is but it certainly helps to give me a rough estimate of how much exercise I am doing each day and it keeps me motivated as I can see how close I am to reaching my target! I am no expert on fitness monitors and it seems there are a lot on the market at the moment but since using it I have felt even more motivated to keep active. I love how discreet it is - I usually clip to the waist of my skirt or trousers at work and it is so light I forget I'm wearing it!
